Hughes HDVR2 Just Died

For the past 2 months, my unit (purchased in Oct 2003) was rebooting during playback of a recorded show, roughly once per day. It always came up fine automatically, and nothing was lost.

Today, for the first time, the unit rebooted, I saw the Powering Up screen, and then a second later, it went dead.

The unit then had the "Record" and "Power" lights alternating (blinking) constantly. When I pulled the plug, and later plugged it back in, that same sequence happened again. The next time I pulled the plug, no lights whatsoever.

I can hear some low level whirring inside the box whenever I plug it in, but no lights, and no video.

What is the best sequence for diagnosing whether this is a power supply, hard drive, motherboard, etc.?

That really sounds like a bad power supply. Just to confirm, do you get video out? If not, that pretty much seals the deal on a bad power supply.

I left it unplugged the entire night. I just plugged it in now, and the front two lights (red Record one and green Power one) are alternating again.

There is an "attempt" at video. I don't see the Power Up screen, but the TV flashes every few seconds (a white bar, like lightning), but goes back to black instantly. There is also "crackling audio", like it's trying to send a signal.

If this still sounds like a power supply, can you point me to where I can order a replacement one for the HDVR2?

OK, sorry for the delay in reporting back, I was traveling for the past two weeks. I got back today, and installed the power supply that I bought from you, and the machine came back to life with all of the recorded programs intact, etc.

Thank you very much, and I'm out of the dog house with my wife since I didn't lose the stuff that was already recorded. :-)
