A co-worker of mine has determined that his TIVO hard drive has gone bad. He bought a Seagate Baracuda st3120022a 120GB drive and wants me to prep it and install it in his TIVO. Before I even try, I had to wonder, if the old hard drive is bad can I use it to prep the new drive at all? I mean will that even work? I thought this process was intended for upgrading a drive, not replacing a bad one?

Nope - you need the TiVo OS to prep the drive. We can do it:

But, I have to ask: if the drive is a 120 GB drive, how old is it? We really don't recommend putting used drives in TiVos. TiVos are pretty demanding.Been here a long time . . .
