  • mfsbackup failure

    I've been trying to backup an S3 (SATA 750) to a FAT32 partition (on a SATA 250).

WHat happens is I issue the mount command
    (mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt)
    No error messages.

I then enter the mfsbackup command
    (mfsbackup -f 9999 -1so /mnt/backup.bak /dev/sda)

The backup starts and tests the drives says 2741 mb to backup at the 10% point. I get the following error message.

(/mnt/backup.bat: No such file or directory found

When I look at the disk, I see a file created at 130mb called backup.bak

What am I doing wrong? Did I somehow corrupt the TiVo drive?

    Thanks <<Ken>>

Sounds like you might have a bad TiVo drive, unless your target drive is full.

No it is an empty drive, so I guess it is bad then.

Could the directory not have privileges that allow writing? Maybe the tools are caching the data, and when they first attempt to write, they hit a privilege restriction and get an error . . .

If you know Linux at all, you could try writing a file to that directory to see what happens.
        Been here a long time . . .

Nope, I don't know unix unfortunately.

By the way this was done on a new empty machine using only your SATA tools disk image. Is their a utility there that I can use to check the drive?

You'd have to go to the drive manufacturer's website to download testing software.

Thanks for your help, the drive is physically fine, appears to be a problem with th TiVo system itself. Just ordered a replacement drive from you.
