  • Replacing a B Drive in Series 1

I am a little confused. I originally upgraded a Phillips HDR 112 with a 60GB hard drive in 2001. I did not use any of the software listed in the upgrade instructions and do not have a backup.

My B drive just died (clicking hard drive) and I was going to replace it with an 80 GB hard drive I had lying around. I am not sure what the original A drive is however I do know that I 'married' them when I did the upgrade. I couldn't find the specific instructions on the WK customized http://tivo.upgrade-instructions.com/step4.php pages to replace a previously married drive.

Do I have to use the Hinsdale Option 4 http://www.newreleasesvideo.com/hins...to/index9.html to complete the replacement drive?

You need a backup of the OS. Do you have one? If not, you can purchase a pre-formatted drive here:

If you didn't use this software, what did you use?

Thanks for getting back. I used some version of Linux software I downloaded from the net in 2002 that ran from a floppy and I haven't had problems until now. Perhaps it was the same stuff but I don't remember.

If one of the drives are dead and they were married, can I still use the other drive to back up the software or should I just order a new one?

        Please help!!! Thanks again

No - once the drives are married, if one dies, you can't get the OS back. You need to order a "replace" kit for your model:

              Michael,

I think I know the answer however I am going to ask anyhow. I had a lifetime subscription on the box with the dead drive. Does that mean that it is done once I order the replacement drive and I will have to pay in addition to my other box or is it built in to the service number?

No - the lifetime service is tied to the motherboard and not the drive. So the lifetime will continue with the new drive.
