  • Pixelation & Freezing

I recently ugraded my TCD540040 from the original 40 hr drive to a dual drive (original & western digital 250gb) configuration using the weaknees bracket and the hinsdale instructions. I followed the instructions creating a backup on my pc, increasing the swap file size and then marrying the two drives. I installed the bracket with the two drives and the TiVo boots up and shows the increased capacity. The problem (which did not exist prior to the upgrade) is that live tv, and playback will pixelate and freeze for some time. Input from the remote will not correct the problem. The faceplate wil show the command was received, but no response from the input. Eventually, the image will move again almost as if it has been playing the whole time but I just couldn't see it.

The replacement drive I used was brand new. Is this a bad drive? I have not yet run the western digital diagnostic tools on the drive. If it's bad, can I use the backup image on my pc to return my original drive to a single drive unit until I can get a replacement for my replacement drive?

If it isn't a bad drive, then what could it be?

    thanks

You probably want to test both drives to confirm they are both good.

Yes, you should be able to restore the backup onto your factory drive.

Assuming it's my original drive that is failing and not the new one, can i restore the back up I made of my original drive to my new drive and have the larger single drive, instead of the dual drive?

      thanks
