    :confused: Newbie Question about adding second drive

    I have the weaknees second drive kit for my tcd540040. I am reading the instructions for formatting the additional drive. do I need to have both the original tivo drive and my second drive hooked up to my pc at the same time? or can i just format the second drive and then add it to my tivo?

    If you have our kit with a drive, you don't have to do anything to program it...we did the work already.

      Sorry, I bought the mounting kit, but I already had the extra drive laying around the house. I will need to format the drive for use in the tivo myself. just curious about mounting only my new drive or needing to mount that one and the original tivo one in my pc to properly format the new drive.

          thanks for the quick reply. only other question. in doing both, will it erase the contents of my existing drive or do i have to back up, format both and then restore.

            If you do it correctly, it won't erase your factory drive.
