  • Upgraded HR10-250 problems

New member well versed in the HR10-250 reboots.
I have a different problem that revealed itself because of the reboots.

My HR10 has the stock drive, and a Weaknees 300gig add-a-drive upgraded last fall.
It worked great through the fall season, through the winter, through the spring guide data/reboot problems and through the summer.

When the latest round of DirecTV/CBS reboots started, a new problem emerged.
Problem is it can't always recover from a reboot, it gets stuck on the Welcome screen until I pull the plug and replug in, then it's fine till the next reboot hits.

Once it's up and running there aren't any of the typical hard drive problem signs.
No glitches, hiccups or pixelating during live TV, nor on any recorded programs either newly recorded or recorded before the latest reboots started happening.

It's just the initial startup that it hangs on.

I am hearing what sounds like a dying fan, same noise my computer made when it started losing the power supply, this noise doesn't start until the unit has been running for a while.
Temperature reading is still within "normal" range though.

I ordered a replacement power supply, replacement case fan, and replacement twin-breeze fan, covering all my bases.
I also ordered the powertrip(tm) thinking it couldn't hurt anything, and might actually help prevent future power supply problems.

Is the powertrip(tm) going to present any problems in an HR10-250?
It isn't recommended for this unit like it is in some of the standalone TiVo boxes.

Order just shipped, so hopefully I'll be fixing it this weekend.

Sounds like you've got the right parts to try to keep the unit running well. We don't think that unit needs a PowerTrip, but one doesn't hurt it either. Just be sure to install it on the Master drive.

The problem of getting stuck on Powering Up could be a power supply, but unfortunately, it's much more likely to be a bad drive in there.
    Been here a long time . . .

      The master drive?
I assumed it hooked to the slave, so it delayed the slave spinning up until the Master had spun up and been read by the TiVo?

Nope - the Master. The Master needs to see the Slave right away, so this makes sure the Slave is running first.
