    DTV Series 2-- Bricked?

    Ok here's a weird one.

    Have a Hughes SD-DVR40 with (I suspect) failing drive. Was rebooting when we tried to access the guide, pixelating and dropping out Live TV and then recorded programs too.

    To bring my baby back to life I tried ordering the 160 Gb upgrade single drive replacement kit. Installed without incident but now the darned thing won't power up at all. Fan will spin but HD won't spin up. Tried the old drive for jollies and that one won't spin up either. No power lamp on front of unit either.

    Something must have happened to PSU, right? Do I have any other options here?

    Thanks for any help I can get. I miss my baby!!!!!

    If you have no lights at all on the front, that often indicates a bad power supply, but you should triple-check the connection from the power supply to the motherboard to be sure that you didn't knock that cable loose during the installation of the drive.

      Thanks for the reply.

      Tried that, no dice. Must have happened during install as unit was powered up right up until I unplugged it to pull it apart for the upgrade. Funny thing is I don't even think I touched the PSU board at all when I put the new drive in.

      I guess there's a possibility of a static discharge as I didn't have a wristband on. Didn't feel one though.

      I have a miltimeter but I'm not sure how to safely test for voltage in the HD power connector. Not sure what I should be looking for either.

      Wow this sucks. I don;t want to have to get one of DTV's crappy R15's...

        The HD power connector should have a 12v and a 5v and two negatives . . .
        Been here a long time . . .
