A couple years a go I upgraded my TiVo TCD24004A by adding a Weaknees 160GB drive in addition to the original 40GB drive. The add-on drive recently went bad but was still under Maxtor warranty so they sent me a refurbished 160GB drive.
Now I'm trying to figure out what I need to do to get it to work in my TiVo. Just physically installing it causes TiVo to hang at the "Powering up..." screen. With the drives connected to my PC and booting using the Weaknees CD they both read as the correct sizes. I know a drive can only be expanded once, but I thought maybe the command would do something necessary to the add-on drive. The command fails with a "Total sectors (79358976) mismatch with volume header (347793408)."
Sounds like the problem is the new add-on drive appears different to the system.
Do I need to backup the original drive, wipe it clean, restore, then expand it with the new add-on drive? Just a guess so far - I'll continue to research this but thought I could save myself some time by posting here. Thanks in advance.
P.S. "Replacing a bad 2nd drive" might be a good option to add to the interactive upgrade instructions.
