How do I get out of Read-only?

I am trying to do the following command:mfsbackup -f9999 -6so /mnt/dos/tivo.bak /dev/hdd
It returns the following:/mnt/dos/tivo.bak: Read-only file system

How do I get it out of Read-only?

I got this error when I was trying to use my secondary PC HDD for the backup file. When I use my primary HDD, I don't have this problem. I have since moved files from my primary to my secondary HDD to get enough room to backup the file on my primary HDD. Unfortunately I still can't backup my Tivo drive. I get the following message after ~10% backup:
Backup failed: /mnt/dos/tivo.bak: Success
