I just upgraded my Series 1 (13GB to 120GB).
I used an old Aptiva which had some problems booting from the MSFTOOLS20 cd when the new, unformatted drive was attached as Master on the 2nd IDE cable. So, switched to Slave, and was OK.

Thank you Weaknees for the excellent quality of your kits and installation guides, Hinsdale for the additional, in-depth instructions, MFSTools for the drive setup & backup tools, and the entire TiVo community for helping to improve upon the TiVo experience! 
I will definitely use all these resources again in the future, whenever I make the jump to a Series3 HD TiVo!
