Add upgrade drive before or after networking?

I purchased a 500GB Weaknees add-on drive for my stock HR10-250. It should arrive next week. Now I'm getting the urge to add PTVnet, most likely replacing the stock drive with another new drive that I have on hand, to keep the original safe. Should I do that upgrade before I connect the add-on drive or after? Or to put it another way, is the add on drive plug-n-play with a modified drive or only a stock drive? TNX and Happy New Year. The add-on drive is modified, so only add it to the drive you'll use in the end.
