hr-20 require anything special to connect to swm?

When DTV installers were at my home, they mentioned a problem connecting hr20-xxx to swm. Said they required some type of splitter of the cable from the 1-4 or 1-8 splitter which would turn the single wire to dual wire?

Is this true?
