  • Adding 3rd HD Tuner w/ SWM8

    Howdy!

I've got a SWM8, 4 lines running in, and I did have our HRxx HD DVR running from the SWM 1 port (including supplying power) and our bedroom Hxx HD tuner running off of SWM 2 port. Up till recently we've been running a 3rd box (an old RCA SD box) from one of the legacy ports.

We've had this setup for several months, but recently added a new plasma set so I wanted to put an extra Hxx HD box on our setup (and probably keep the old RCA box as well).

With an SWM8, running 3 HD boxes (one being a DVR), do I simply need to split one of the SWM ports (like #2) into 2 outside/at the box? So liek this:

SWM Port 1 > HD DVR

    SWM Port 2 > Splitter > HD Box 1 & 2

SWM Legacy Port > SD Box

I tried running our H20 off the legacy wire, but it reports it can't find the sats. I swapped out that line at the SWM to SWM Port 2, and it fired right up. So I assume for H2x series HD boxes, I need a SWM port and not a legacy port.

Do I need the High Frequency splitters or the regular splitters? It looks like the latter (the HF +seem+ to be for daisy chaining SWM boxes).

I'm thinking a 1-to-4, split off SWM port 2 (the non-powered port). Other than powering the SWM, does the powered (SWM port 1) provide better signal?

    Thanks!

    DT

Yes, that's the right pattern. And a H20 should run off a legacy port, but won't get any HD.

You do need a specific SWM splitter due to the frequencies used. We've got them here:

No difference in the signal strength between the two ports.
    Been here a long time . . .
