  • DECA -- for Wii?

    Finally put my order in for HD + Whole Home DVR w/Internet upgrade. Will be a sad day when I power off my 3 DirecTiVos in a few weeks!

    Will I be able to run a 1x2 splitter in my family room and use a DECA connecter for my Wii? Would be a big improvement over wireless reception I get now.

    Thx.

    Yes, you can get Internet to the Wii using a DECA adapter.

        Hmm...thinking about this a little more...

        If I have an HR24 hooked up, can I connect Wii (or DVD player) via Ethernet to the HR24? (since HR24 gets internet from the SWM)? Has anyone done this?

        Or does this not make sense?

          No. Once you connect Ethernet to an HR24, the internal DECA is disabled.

            Yeah, it all makes sense now. Dumb question.

            Will split and add DECA (w/power supply) for Wii/or DVD player.

            Thanks again.

              Dumb question 2:

              Do I need a PI with the DECA if I'm connecting it to non-DTV device (i.e. Wii)?

              Actually, I'd like to add an ethernet switch to one of the open coax lines in my family room and use for Wii, blu-ray, etc.

                Yes - the DECA gets power from the SAT connection on a DirecTV unit, so if you aren't using one of those, you'll always need another power supply.

                  Michael, thanks for your reply...I think I understand now!

                    Just a follow-up ... I hooked up the DECA w/PI to the 2nd coax line in our family room (used to have a SD DTiVo, now have an HR24) ... hooked that up to a 5 port network switch. Blu Ray player is hooked into switch, works great (can do Netflix, Amazon VOD, Pandora, Flixster, etc.). Now I just need a UBS/ethernet adapter for the Wii and that will be hooked up as well.

                    Thanks for the help, Michael.

                      OK - excellent. These are really pretty handy, and they work with many products outside of DirecTV receivers.

                        I got my usb/ethernet adapter for the Wii (finally).

                        Now I have both the Blu Ray and Wii hooked up to the switch. Works great. I've been told using the DECA "cloud" for stuff other than MRV could affect performance, but I haven't seen evidence of this yet.

                        Cable 1-->HR24
                        Cable 2-->5 port switch
                        port1-->DECA
                        port2-->Wii
                        port3-->Blu Ray

                        If I get an Airport Express for Christmas that will go on port4

                          Yup - we've seen that in the notes. You could move the HR24 over to the SWM line if you have it, and that should keep the DTV traffic off the ethernet.
