  • SWM8 Configuration Help Needed

    I'm helping a buddy out and could use a little help myself.

    Current Configuration
    DIRECTV with HD Slimline Dish
    Four Lines from the LNB (2 to each DVR)
    1 HR20
    1 HR21

    New Desired Configuration
    1 HR20
    1 HR21
    1 HD Receiver (not purchased yet but want MRV with it)
    1 SD Receiver

    He is not using OTA, so I'm not sure if that makes things easier. I've looked at the wiring diagrams but I'm not really sure what I need for his specific configuration.

    Would this configuration correct?

    4 Cables from LNB -> SWM8
    SWM1 of SWM8 -> Power Inverter
    Power Inverter -> 1x4 SWM Switch
    HR20 / HR21 / HD Receiver -> 1x4 SWM Switch (1 line each no B-band filter)
    SD Receiver -> Legacy 1 on SWM8

    Any help would greatly be appreciated. While I'm here if you happen to know the best HD receiver for MRV, it would be cool to know that too. I'm going to research that too. I know some of the receivers that worked with the CE don't work now.

    Thanks in advance for any help.

    Yup - that looks basically right, except that if you are getting a new SD receiver, you're better off getting a Band Stop Filter with it and connecting it to a SWM port. That'll enable it to receive MPEG4 programming.

    And for MRV you'll need DECA parts. You can use our configuration utility here:

    For the HD receiver, you should get an H24 since it has DECA built-in. We have those available here:

    Been here a long time . . .

      Thanks for the help. Two more things if you don't mind.

      1) The SD receiver he has is old. I think he's just going to use it in his exercise room. Am I ok to hook it up to the legacy port? It's not going to support MPEG4. Actually, now that I think of it, he has an extra HD receiver that doesn't support MRV. Maybe I'll just use that. Scratch this question.

      2) I was going to use ethernet for MRV, as I did in my house when I was using the CE firmware. Any reason this option won't work when compared to DECA? Once they started charging to MRV I didn't keep it. I can't imagine it doesn't support ethernet but I wanted to verify it with you.

      Thanks again for the help.

        1 - Either way. An old HD receiver may need a legacy port also.

        2 - Ethernet works fine.
