  • Setup Help, Please

I just had a DTV HR 24-100 along with a second HD receiver professionally installed in my "stick built" residence. The DTV installer used the new Slimline 5-S dish (Built in SWM LNB) with a single line running to necessary power injector and splitter in the attic. Everything functions properly without problems.

Since we also travel in our RV part of the year, I bring along one of my DTV receivers so I can enjoy my programming while on the road. Here's where I'm running into a problem:

Anticipating the new HD equipment (but not the SWM installation), I purchased a new Slimline 5 dish (non-SWM LNB) I set up the dish and properly aimed it with signal strength ranging from the upper 80's to the mid 90's on the Satellites that I was able to check.

I next hooked up the HR24-100 using dual coax inputs. During the setup process, the receiver defaulted to the Slimline 4-s dish and SMW as the switch option. Of course, nothing worked in that configuration since I'm using a standard Slimline 5 dish in the RV.

I next manually selected the Slimline 5 dish and selected "multi-switch" in the switch selection box and "dual" in for the tuner selection. The receiver then asked for B Band Converters, which were not included by the home installer since they are not required for the SWM system at home. I continued with the setup without the B Band Converters and received messages showing that a couple of the satellites couldn't be found. Setup then proceeded as usual. As I expected, nearly all the HD channels are unavailable without the B Band converters.

My question, after my lengthy explanation is simple: Do I simply need to add a couple of B Band converters to solve my problem with my RV installation? Or, is there something else going on that I'm missing?

Yup - get a couple of B-Band converters, and then just redo satellite setup each time you move it. Use the B-Bands in the RV, but not in the house.
