  • I Think I Get It (or, yet another DECA/Internet post...)

    Hi all -

Been lurking and reading and I think I know what I need. I just want to run it by the experts to see if I'm on the right track...

Like many, I thought/assumed/was told that the DTV Internet connection was part of the MRV package. I was told incorrectly, it appears, and now that my install was finished on Tuesday they want another $25 for the Internet adapter and $50 for the technician to come to my house and plug it in. Nice work if you can get it, I suppose...

Anyway, I've got a pretty simple setup with an HR24 in the living room, an H24 in the bedroom, and a SD received (D12?) in the basement guest room for when the in-laws stay with us. All of this is connected to one of these things in my basement.

In the basement guest room, there is also this thing sitting on the floor which, if my understanding is correct, powers the SWM. And the D12 also has a BSF already attached.

My Comcast HSI comes in right to the same location in my basement and that is connected to an Airport Extreme Base Station which has a couple empty ports on it.

Given my reading and re-reading of the resources here, I believe that all I need is one of those DirecTV DECA adapters that runs $49.99. My remaining question is this: Do I need the power adapter, too?

Assuming I can get what I need for $49.99 or $67.99, I'm saving at least $8 over having DTV do it, and I'm saving myself taking another half-day off work only to watch someone else do something I could've done myself in under 3 minutes.

And there are no fees from DTV to "activate" this feature?

    Thanks in advance!

Yes, you need the DECA power also. One end of the DECA plugs into that open port on your 4-way splitter (your first link in the post above). The other end of the DECA has an Ethernet port and coax port. Ethernet to router, coax to the DECA power supply.

    Nor added fees from DIRECTV.

      Thanks, Jeff.

Forgot to ask one more question....

If I ever added an additional box, would I need another splitter or can the Internet adapter piggyback on an existing port?

I'm not quite sure I understand the question.

Once you have a DECA connected to your router and a SWM splitter, than any SWM-compatible DIRECTV receiver connected to the same SWM system will have Internet access.

If you are asking how to add another DIRECTV receiver....you just connect the receiver to an open port on a SWM splitter. If you have no open port, then you get a splitter with more splits, or you add a 1x2 SWM splitter to the mix.

This is what I was attempting to ask. I was wondering if the 4th port could be "shared" by the Internet adapter and another receiver. Sounds like that's a No.

Thanks for your help. I'll be making a purchase in the near future!

It can be if you purchase a SWM 1x2 splitter.
