I did some searching and didn't find any threads that covered my particular problem so I figured that a new thread would be ok.
Yesterday, DirecTV came out to install my entire system. The installer brought me 2 brand new HR24-500 DVRs. He told me that we would setup a SWM system so he didn't have to pull extra cable. Sounds great.
He installed the dish and the 1x4 splitter on the side of the house. I setup the two receivers and the power inserter at the one in my living room. He put the line from the living room on port #1 (red port) of the 1x4 splitter. I did not see a SWM8 anywhere so I'm assuming that this new dish has the SWM LNB (ODU) in place.
Anyhow, the DVR in the living room (on port #1 of splitter and in-line with PI) has no issues at all. The one in the bedroom cannot find a signal on tuner #2.
The installer called tech and they diagnosed it as a bad DVR. He had another and we swapped it out and activated the new one. Same problem. We took this new one over to the living room and it then worked great. I took the PI and moved it to the bedroom and put the bedroom line on port #1 of the 1x4 splitter. The bedroom is now good to go but the living room only gets 1 tuner (just like the bedroom was before).
My question is whether this is caused by the 1x4 splitter being bad or by the SWM LNB being bad? I will have the installer come back in the next day or so but, I want to avoid more failed attempts and get this working ASAP.
I was thinking that maybe the 1x4 splitter is bad and that is why it cannot supply a second channel to ports 2, 3 & 4. We have placed the bedroom receiver on all of these ports and none of them supply the signal to tuner 2 through the DVR's Sat1 (SWM) input port.
I considered that the LNB is bad but, wouldn't that also cause the one in the living room to have issues too?
