  • SWM LNB vs SWM8

Just entering this world. I am looking at new service with 1 HD DVR, and 1 HD receiver. What are the advantages of using the external SWM8 versus a SWM LNB? I do need to duplex in a cableTV signal, but that appears doable with either configuration. The LNB appears to be simpler....

SWM LNB has a limit of 8 tuners and you do have to diplex in another signal (OTA/cable). The SWM lnb requires a dish change, whereas if you already have a 5lnb, you don't have to swap the dish to use a SWM8.

Thanks for the speedy reply. At this point, I have nothing in hand. So switching out a dish doesn't effect me. Because I'm not likely to ever blow pat 4 tuners (assuming I upgrade the second unit to a DVR,) either way should work? Having a single cable versus 4 would be the only real difference? No performance hits?

      Thanks for sharing your insight.

Yup - either should work, and in your situation, it comes down to the complexity of the installation. SWM is easier, but cost more for the parts.
        Been here a long time . . .
