  • DirecTV SWM8 new install

Does DirecTV have SWM8s to install as part of a new install? If so How can I insure that they install one instead of the regular SWM? My new house is almost done being built and I have it wired for a SWM8.

    thanks,

The newer home installs are the Slimline SL3-S ODU SWM. This has the SWM built into the LNB. One cable comes in from the Sat dish and attachs to the power inserter, then from the power inserter to the appropriate type splitter. Mine goes into an 8 way splitter, tthis one DIRECTV SWM SWS8WB 8-Way Wide Band 2 - 2150 MHz Splitter SWS-8. The SWM8 is/was designed more for commercial use.

    EDIT
This is provided that ALL of your equipment is SWM capable. If you have a need for legacy type ports, then you will need the external SWM. Not sure you can be insured of anything when it comes to specific equipment. The installer is your best bet.

I'm pretty sure DIRECTV does not, at this time, ship SWM multiswitches. If that is what you want, you might want to have the SWM equipment on-hand for the installer, or if you sign up for DIRECTV through us, we can help work with the installer to be sure that the install with the SWM8 is done right.

If you have your own preferred installer, you can purchase the SWM equipment only and perhaps talk to the installer to see if he/she knows how to install SWM multiswitches.

        Insuring a NON-SWM dish

I have now purchased and received a SWM-8. How can I insure that I do not get a SWM dish? I only have 1 HR20 receiver. I prefer the SWM-8 for it's integrated OTA input, legacy ports(I have 2 non-active legacy receivers), its expansion ability, and I already have run all the lines required for the SWM-8 to my distribution panel.

        Thanks

I'm not sure that you can, but if you have four or fewer tuners overall, it shouldn't be a question. Otherwise, when the DTV guy comes out to install the dish, he'll likely have both LNBs on the truck, and if you work with him and let him hook up your SWM8, he should be happy to use the less expensive LNB without SWM.
          Been here a long time . . .
