  • SWM Dish Vs. SWM add-on

I just read the Thread from g311, titled "help with HD upgrade" and I'm in the exact same boat as him!

I've had DirecTV for over 5 years, live in a 3 story townhome and want to upgrade to an HD DVR while keeping my two older receivers.

My first call to DirecTV was just to inquire about the possibilty and when I was told it would be free I jumped at the chance, until the CSR told me that 2 lines were required to make the DVR work. I told her on the FIRST PHONE CALL that it would be impossible to run a second line to where my DVR would be going. They sent out an intallation tech anyway, who confirmed that a second line could not be run. I called back and asked for a SWM but was told that it could not be added to the work order even though I needed one.

I e-mailed the DirecTV presidents office who called me today saying that they MIGHT be able to get me a SWM if I would agree to upgrade my old receivers for $69 each because they would not work with the SWM. I told him I'd done the research and they would indeed work but that just sent us in circles.

The weaknees website says that the 5LNB SWM dish is backward compatible with all directv receivers is this true or not?

I know the add-on SWM has legacy connections on it, but what about using the SWM dish with legacy receivers? Is the information in the product description incorrect?

Where do we say the 5LNB SWM dish is backward compatible with all receivers? That's incorrect, so please give us the chance to fix it.

To clarify: the 5LNB is compatible with all receivers. The SWM8 (not the SWM LNB) can support all receivers. But not the SWM LNB.

Sounds like you need a 5LNB dish with a SWM8 and use of the legacy ports for the older receivers. The 5LNB SWM has no legacy ports.

On the Weaknees website if you hover your mouse over "DirecTV Parts" and then click on "Dishs" you come to this site: http://www.weaknees.com/directv-dish.php

Which has a brief description of all the dishs including the 5LNB SWM dish which says
