  • Searching For Signal (771)

    Hello...
I am new to the Directv and the lingo, so please bare with me if my question/problem is long...but I don't want to leave anything out. I have the dish attached to my garage. I have one cable running into my house. I have 4 TVs. 1 of the TV's is HD, the other 3 are not. Since installation, I have had no problems. Just yesterday, the HD TV was making a pulsing noise, however I still had a perfect picture, so I thought the sound on my TV was bad. I replaced this TV with exact same model. It still made the same sound...I called the 1800# for assistance to get this problem fixed...please note, that my other 3 TVs in the house were working perfectly...well long story short...after 2 1/2 hours on the phone, now all my TVs are saying SEARCHING FOR SIGNAL (771). The BEST that can be done for tech to come and see what the problem is in 8 days...until then, I have nothing....any thoughts or suggestions.

Do you get this on all channels, even channel 200?

first thing I would try and disconnect all the tvs from the reciever except for one. make sure you disconnect the recievers from the satelite at the back of the unit.

Then with only one tv and one receiver hooked up, reset the receiver with the red button on the front and wait and see if it comes back up.

Another thing to look at is the dish itself, usually if everything goes out, the dish connections or the dish itself may have a problem. Since your dish is on the garage, one question would be, are the cables running into the garage, or are they on the outside of the garage. The reason i ask is that if they are running on the inside of the garage you could have had some rodent chewing on them. Yes, seems silly but it does happen.

This is just a few things to look at.

allev30 has good tips - basically, use the process of elimination to see what's going on.

It's possible that this is just coincidental with a dish problem, but fairly unlikely.
          Been here a long time . . .
