I have DirecTV (DTV) and the slimline 5 LNB dish with no multi-switch since I have only 4 receivers in the house. The four receiver feeds run directly from the dish/LNB to various entry points in the house in close proximity to the individual room/receivers. (They do not enter the house at 1 single/common location).
The receivers I currently have are a "mixed bag" ranging from an old SD unit in the spare room, to my 3 other HD receivers. The HD units are as follows: 1 BR has the ancient H10, another has an H720. The living room, (my primary concern) contains my home theater system and has a new HR721 DVR.
It is this room that is permanently limited to a single RG-6 feed, which has prohibited the potential for any dual-tuner operations, until now. Like many DTV customers, I was awaiting the availability of an affordable SWM to be offered by DTV. The only way I found out they are now used in my area was when I switched my mother from cable to DTV and the installers used 1 at her house.
Sidebar issue: I called DTV and tried to get one for my system with no success. They insist that they have no way to order a "SWM-only" install from their computer system. (How dumb).
Anyway - My question is this: "Assuming" I obtain and install an SWM...
Could my other 3 receiver feeds remain wired to the LNB "as is" and only place the SWM in the the coax feeding the living room, (the room that has only the single feed)?
Or would I need to run the other 3 (off of the legacy ports?) and insert the SWM and PSU in the living room feed?
Please advise. SWM equipment/model recommendation is also welcome. Thank you!
