I was recently informed by DirecTV that a SWM would not work with my system due to my geographic location. According to tech help, there are certain areas of the country where it won't function because it doesn't have access to the correct satellite. I haven't seen any other information stating there are limitations. Can you clarify?

SWM and Geographical Limitations

In truth DirecTV's story keeps changing slightly. First they did mention they wouldn't supply a SWM due to location, but the implication was that as a single family residence we didn't qualify. Now they tell me it is because it won't work with the satellites for my geographic area. However, I know from the local installation company that SWM's have been included on other work orders. This leaves me very confused and more than a little disappointed in DirecTV customer service.

DIRECTV isn't supplying SWMs to residences, so that's probably what they were reporting. This is really just to simplify things at DIRECTV, we suspect (they don't want to train their customer support reps).
That said, we have been selling the SWM for quite some time now, and DIRECTV reps refer their customers to us. I think the 'geographical' issue is either a miscommunication or baloney.

To clarify this you have to qualify with a minimum number of receivers usually 4 or more with multiple dvrs and all equipment has to be MPEG4 no legacy. Then you have the fact that most HSPs only have a few techs trained and will not allow contractors to do them then you have supply and demand factor. Try to find a local dealer to do the install or change the switch after the install.
