I'd prefer to use RG-11 because, as I understand it, it'll go further than RG-6 since it has less resistance. Is that right? Does the SWM-8 work with RG-11? Do the DirecTV DVRs?

RG11 is fine with DIRECTV installations; it reduces signal loss and allows for longer runs from the dish.

      Jeff,
Can a SWM setup work with a house wired with 20 year old RG-59 cable? Also, how far away can the power inserter be from the SWM8?

      Thanks,

      VR

Yes, RG59 also works with the SWM, but RG6 and RG11 are better. The max runs are 200ft with a 1x8 splitter, 250ft with a 1x4 splitter, and 300ft with a 1x2 splitter, using RG6. RG59 runs would likely need to be shorter, but I don't have the specs for this lower-quality cable.
