  • HR10-250 question

    Hello all,

I am new to this forum and have a couple of questions concerning the migration from the Tivo HR10-250 (which I love) to the DirecTV HR20 POS.

    1. I have seen a lot of used HR10-250 Tivo boxes for sale on Ebay going for anywhere from $200 to $300. What good are these boxes if DTV is dropping Tivo?
    2. Are the new DTV HR20-100 boxes really as bad as everyone is saying?
    3. Should I just stay with my HR10-250 until DTV forces me to switch?
    4. Does anyone know if "3rd Party" alternitives will become avalible in the near future to replace the HR20?

1 - DTV isn't dropping TiVo at all. They have a contract with TiVo through 2010. They just aren't producing new TiVo hardware. See more info about all of this here:

(older info, but mostly still accurate)

The real problem with the units on eBay is that they have been leased by the previous owner, so the new "buyer" really can't use them at all. Our units were never on a lease plan.

2 - That seems to be the consistent feeling, at least among TiVo users.

3 - Definitely. If you don't need to switch, don't.

    4 - Not likely.

      Thanks for the info.
My HR10-250 was purchased and not leased.
I was wondering why WeaKnees was selling refurbished HR10-250's for so much money. So I guess my HR10-250 is worth a lot.
I am going to stay with what I have for now and look at maybe switching to DishNetwork. They offer a lot more HD channels and DTV cannot give me a date as to when they will be offering thier subscribers more HD content.
Anyone have any feedback on the DishNetwork HD DVR?

We can't tell you much about the Dish DVR, but the TiVo Series3 for cable is an excellent box. And, with cable, you might be able to save on your monthly bill since you can get the service bundled with internet access and phone.

I live in a rual area about 60 miles north of Detroit and the cable service is bad. Only 35 channels, no HD, no DVR, no digital. Way behind the times. I am sure that the reason Comcast won't upgrade thier service in my area is the cost/ demand factor. So I am stuck with Satellite for now.

Well, for DVR, that part is covered by the TiVo. HD might be covered with an OTA antenna:
