  • 5 LNB Dish/Multiswitch question

I just purchased a 5 LNB slimline (not SWM) dish from Weaknees. Am I required to use a multiswitch with this dish, or can I plug any one of the 4 lines from the dish directly into my receiver. I only have one TV, so I don't otherwise need a multiswitch. The receiver is a SD, non-DVR plain-vanilla DirecTV receiver. TIA.

If you only need four tuners-worth of output, then, no, you don't need a multiswitch at all. Just don't split any outputs.

      Excellent. thank you.

      One other question:
I have heard that aligning this dish can be difficult.
Can I use the receiver's signal strength meter to perform the alignment, or do I need a special meter?
I have access to a Triplett SatAlign signal strength meter but I don't know whether that meter will work with this newer dish?
      Thanks.

        Well, you can always try.

Really, a new signal meter that can see all of the satellites (99, 101, 103, 110, and 119) is the right meter. Anything short of that can, of course, work, but it's guaranteed to be a frustrating experience.
