    HR21-700 Hard Drive Settings

    Trying to install a Hitachi 1 Terabyte drive internally into a HR21-700 but the picture froze after 10 minutes with a loud clicking noise coming from hard drive. Took the drive out and ran it using Drive Fitness and no problems found (quick and advanced test). Thinking maybe need to change the Data Rate?

    Should the SATA drive be configured as 1.5Mbs or 3.0Mbs?

    Should Spread Spectrum Clocking be enabled or disabled?

    Any other ideas?

    We don't publicly release the info on our tweaks for these, but that really just sounds like a plain-old bad drive, to be honest. We've seen plenty where they show as good via the manufacturer's test, but they still don't work right.

        If you can return it and try a Segate drive. They seam to work.

          Be wary of the external Seagate case. The Free Agent Pro (FAP) seems to have problems with DVRs. If you have one already, many problems are solved with a new eSATA cable.
