  • HR-21 Pro Availability?

I figured I would ask those who know before I go and call DirecTV Customer Service.

I have seen a couple of blog posts about the DirecTV HR21 Pro Series HD DVR; scans of a brochure found at a trade show, I guess. Rack-mounted, optical HDMI, 1080p, 100 hours stock.

As an authorized DirecTV reseller, do you have any confirm / deny / ETA / gonna get my hopes up information? Any info would be appreciated.

This is not out yet and we have no ETA from DIRECTV.

      Thanks

Thanks very much. I'll keep checking back.

As an aside, in your FAQ you mention that the HR21 is not rack-mountable, implying that the HR20 is. Would I need to purchase additional hardware to mount it, like brackets or a shelf, or is it ready to go out of the box? Please advise, thanks.

We will fix the FAQ; it really is meant to suggest that the HR21 is NOT the pro version that you were referring to...the HR21 availability was confusing people into thinking that the pro version was available.

          Guys:

I have confirmed with several sources-The HR 21 Pro WILL NOT output 1080p. So what you get (over the regular HR 21) is the optical HDMI which will allow for longer cable runs, and a double the size hard disk. So if you don't need the longer cable run (and rack mounting)-then the extra $400+ is an awful lot to pay for a bigger hard drive. Our friends at Weakness can get you there a lot cheaper !

It was true at the time written, but you are also right--now, after a software update, the HR20, HR21 and HR21P all output 1080p...but it outputs in 1080p/24, which not all TVs support.
