Installing an off-air antenna is the best/only way, presuming you are not in LA or NY. See:

Does the OTA you recommend and sell work over the coax lines already installed with my HD DirecTV dish or will it require it's own direct coax line form the OTA into the HR10-250?

It can be diplexed into the same coax lines, assuming you don't have a 5LNB dish. Diplexers are here:

You can't diplex. You need to run a separate line for OTA.

I have a 3 headed (3 receptors) Directv dish. I'm hoping that is a LNB-3 unit because I'd like to use the two cables coming from the dish to my HR10-250 to also bring in the OTA antenna's feed which will have to be mounted in a different location away from the Dish. Do I need then two Diplexers? One then to splice in the OTA feed to one of the Dish Sat Feeds and then at the TV one to do the reverse, to splice the one line to go to one of the Sat tuners and to the OTA input on the HR10-250.

All this though is moot though if I can't get a stable signal. I have one of your Wineguard 2000 Antennas and I can only get signal if it is 10 feet off the roof line (yes, amplified). I'm not about to put a mast in to do that so I need to find another more powerful antenna that can give me a good signal but be mounted either low on a chimney or maybe even in the garage attic. I'm about 35 miles south from Sutro (SF) in the foothills but should be able to do this- Blue Zone to all major networks Frequencies.

Right - you'll need two diplexers - one in and one out.

The antenna for OTA gets its best signal as line-of-sight, so if you have trees or hills or other buildings in the way, it gets tougher.

OK, good to know about the Diplexers. Amazing to think that both the OTA and Sat feeds can share one line.

As for the OTA signal line of site, I will have to do some more research there to see if another antenna is better than the Winegaurd.

Just to be totally clear about OTA and SAT sharing the same lines, this works with your older 3LNB dish, but it will not work with newer 3LNB Slimline dishes, or 5LNB dishes, except in conjunction with a SWM.
