    Disc copy help

    I have purchased a new 160 gig Weaknees hard drive to replace my old (working) 40 gig that came in my Philips 704. The drive was supposed to come with complete instructions. I do not have a FAT32 drive in my computer to copy a backup image to.

    I have installed the old drive and the new drive on the same IDE cable as Master and Slave. The PC boots to the Linux CD and sees the drives as the appropriate sizes. My instructions do not include the Linux commands to copy one drive to another. I have no knowledge of Linux.

    I called Weaknees on the phone. They politely said that they don't provide that type of support on the phone. I should send an email.

    I sent an email. They replied that they do not provide that type of email support. I should read the instructions or go to the forum.

    This is not the type of support I was hoping for from Weaknees.

    Can someone in this forum please have mercy on a newbie and send the commands I need?

    What exactly are you looking for? We do include complete installation instructions. Were those not in the box?

    If you are looking to do a copy, that we don't support, but you can send us the drives and we can do it for a fee. But we can also try to help you here.

      I was looking to copy my old 40 gig drive to the new 160 gig drive. The instructions don't help if you don't have a system with a FAT32 partition on it. Not getting any help, I gave up and just installed the drive as per the instructions that came with it. After calling DirecTV and activating my card, the system kept rebooting until it came to a screen that says: "A Severe error has occurred" Please leave the system plugged in and connected to a phone line for 3 hours while the system tries to repair itself.

      This is not what I expected. Did I get a bad drive?

        You might have a bad drive. Email us with your order info.

        As far as your copy, use this:

        but don't choose to make a backup. Then nothing will need a FAT32 partition.

            OK, I'm sorry that I didn't post this sooner. Once you guys got me to the right page, everything worked perfectly. It wasn't my lack of Unix knowledge that was holding me back; it was my inability to follow simple instructions. My recorder is back up, works fine, and I am very happy with my Weaknees hard drive.
