  • Series 2 Upgrade Failure

My Weaknees Tivo upgrade has been a failure.

My Series 2 Tivo Model TCD240080 was freezing up while watching live or recorded programs. I tried rebooting it, but it would hang up in various steps.

I ordered and installed a Seagate 250 Gbytes HD, a power supply, and a cooling fan. Installation seemed straightforward, and all cable connections were clean.

When first powered up, the unit had no video output with the left side green and amber lights flashing. After the fourth time of removing and reseating all the cables, the "powering up" screen came on for 10 - 45 minutes. I took it back apart and reinstalled the new components. By fits and starts I stumbled through the set up, with the Tivo freezing up or shutting output off on the "getting setup info" screen. After unplugging the unit and rebooting it after 10-15 minutes I reached (on the sixth try) the "getting program info" screen.

Here the display froze up once at "60% info loaded". After unplugging it and rebooting again, I was able to get past the "getting setup info" screen after three or four trys, only to have the screen flicker and black out while loading info. This has been repeated three more times.

After spending all afternoon and evening I am a bit frustrated. I looked for a spare IDE cable to try, but I have none on hand. I guess a 20 mile trip into town tonight to try to find an IDE cable is my next step, but then what?

    Upgrade failure added info

I forgot to mention that when the Tivo flickers and blacks out while "loading info" the green and amber lights on the left side flicker just like when I originally could not get to the "powering up" screen.

        Frustrated

Thanks - I was getting pretty frustrated and thought I may have listed the original post in the wrong forum.
