  • Need DirecTV HD Tivo DVR recommendation

So i've been reading through the forums, and am familiar with the DirecTV vs Tivo thing... I have DirecTV and don't want to change to cable. I currently have an SD DirecTV Tivo receiver that I absolutely love, but I think it's about time for me to go to high def.

I'm looking for some recommendations. My first thought was to pick up one of these DirecTV HD Tivo DVR from weaknees (great success with you guys in the past!) but it's over $1000? Is that a misprint? How can that be possible? Is it because they are no longer made? Or something else ?

Unless that price drops more than 80% I won't be making that purchase. I've seen others mention that they are using Tivo & DirecTV & HD ... I'm wondering how you are doing it. I'm guessing something like DirecTV receiver + standalone Tivo? ... I'm sure I could figure out how to set it up, but how confusing is it to use? What do I miss by going this route?

I've used other DVR services in the past (Comcast, ReplayTV) and always came back to Tivo. It just can't be beat.

Please help me get DirecTV + HD + Tivo + decent price. At this point, I've only been ablet to come up with solutions that meet 3 of those 4 needs.

    Thanks!

Yup - the price is high because they're no longer made, and they're very, very hard to find.

Really, there's no other way to use TiVo and HD and DTV. You can use a TiVo with an HD DTV receiver, but it will only record in SD.

Ugh, that's what I was afraid of. Thanks for clarifying.

Well, the other option is the TiVo Series3. It's an all-in-one unit for cable; no cable box needed (or possible). Frankly, it's a really excellent machine that people are finding to be better than DirecTV at this point:
