  • Blank Remote Codes

Just activated a 16TB TiVo Roamio Pro, but two things were odd:

    1) The local channel lineups were completely different (probably just a TiVo update?), and

    2) (more troubling) The code screens for setting up the TiVo remote for TV power & volume (as well as those for TV input and A/V volume & power) were completely BLANK. (They usually have a list of numerous brands.)

Anyone else run into this recent development? There unit sense to be working fine otherwise.

    1. Does the lineup actually match your channels? If not, then you may need to go through setup and choose a different lineup. If so, then this same change should have come to your other TiVos as well.

    2. This is indeed odd and I don't recall seeing this before. Have you tried the usual first step--reboot the machine? Fortunately, the remote codes are the same across TiVos. Have you tried to get the code list from another TiVo?

The channels match up, with a couple minor discrepencies that don't affect me (Spanish soccer channels); the other TiVos (at least the active ones) still have the old channel lineup, which all-in-all isn't that much different, as noted.

Restarting did nothing, and neither did a couple forced connections. As you also mention, the codes are easily obtained, from other TiVos as well as tivo.com's support pages. I was just wondering if this TiVo's remote code screens being completely BLANK is something to be worried about.

P.S. One thing that did happen is that during a System Update during Guided Setup, the TiVo rebooted before it finished loading (and verifying). Might this be a possible reason?

Were you watching the TiVo while it loaded/rebooted during setup, because the Roamio Pro definitely is supposed to reboot itself in the middle of setup to get the latest software version. If it rebooted in a place where it wasn't supposed to, you would be brought back to the beginning of guided setup again.

If the TiVo is otherwise working fine, I don't think the missing remote codes should be cause for concern, but of course we're happy to get the unit back to take a look and/or reload fresh software if you'd like.

Re the lineup, sometimes there are multiple lineup choices in setup and the differences among them are minor. If you know you chose the right lineup, then it may be just a matter of time for the TiVo to get the channel changes.

Guided Setup went on as usual until after downloading channel lineup info there was a dialogue box explaining that the unit would restart to install a System Update. It made a point that after completion, Guided Setup settings up to that point would nevertheless be retained; however, on restart, Guided Setup basically started from scratch. While downloading the channel lineup a second time, the TiVo restarted before the "Loading" had finished (before "Verifying" even begun). This time, the restart led to the program info being downloaded.

As for the blank Remote Codes phenomenon: FWIW, apparently others are experiencing this:

Apparently, the latest disaster of updates associated with the ramming of Rovio program data down our throats (rendering OnePasses and Auto-Record WishLists and even Guide data inoperable) had something to do with the blank remote codes screens.

Makes sense. The transition is causing some issues out there.
