Can't get Kickstart to start

After many working years my Prestige XL froze in startup. It gets past the initial startup screen, goes black after about a minute and then the screen fills up with narrow vertical lines.

I tried the Kickstart process - waited for the amber flashing light, pushed PAUSE and entered either 54 or 57. I got alternate flashing lights for about 10 seconds, then a solid amber, black screen and then the vertical lines. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

I can't really say that I've seen the vertical lines, but the rest of it sure sounds like a bad hard drive. I'd try a replacement kit - especially if you have lifetime service on the TiVo.
