About 3 weeks ago I was recording several programs at the same time. I turned on my TV and I got a cable card failure message 161 and 162. If I tuned to an individual channel I would get the V58 message. If I remained on the channel it would actually come back on in a couple of minutes with picture and sound however if I tuned to another channel it would be out. I have Verizon FIOS. I called their customer service number and used their automated service to re-pair the card. It took about 30 minutes. I think they send a code out because I had the TV on and the picture would come on intermittently while signal was being sent. Everything was working fine until about week later the same problem occurred. This time I spoke to an agent.
Unfortunately with the strike the agent knew very little about cable card repair and had to get help from others in the office. The agent un-paired and re-paired the card. I called TiVo and they recommended I go the attenuator route because my cable strength reads 100% at 43db. I held off buying one to see if Verizon had solved the problem. No such luck, Friday while I watching a recorded program the 161-162 error screen came on. This time I did an experiment. I just unplugged the TiVo and rebooted it. It worked, all the channels were restored. Unfortunately 36 hours later the same issue. I was watching a recorded program and error screen came on again. The reboot solved the problem once more. I finally bought an attenuator from eBay but won't have it for a week. My question is this a cable voltage issue. Should I swap out cable cards with Verizon. Is the cable card slot bad. Is Verizon unknowingly sending out a signal that is un-pairing the card. I never had an issue before. I have had Verizon FIOS for several years now. I initially had the M-Card in my TiVo Premiere and never had an issue. I bought the Roamio from TiVo over a year ago.
