  • TiVo Roamio Pro cable card failure

About 3 weeks ago I was recording several programs at the same time. I turned on my TV and I got a cable card failure message 161 and 162. If I tuned to an individual channel I would get the V58 message. If I remained on the channel it would actually come back on in a couple of minutes with picture and sound however if I tuned to another channel it would be out. I have Verizon FIOS. I called their customer service number and used their automated service to re-pair the card. It took about 30 minutes. I think they send a code out because I had the TV on and the picture would come on intermittently while signal was being sent. Everything was working fine until about week later the same problem occurred. This time I spoke to an agent.
Unfortunately with the strike the agent knew very little about cable card repair and had to get help from others in the office. The agent un-paired and re-paired the card. I called TiVo and they recommended I go the attenuator route because my cable strength reads 100% at 43db. I held off buying one to see if Verizon had solved the problem. No such luck, Friday while I watching a recorded program the 161-162 error screen came on. This time I did an experiment. I just unplugged the TiVo and rebooted it. It worked, all the channels were restored. Unfortunately 36 hours later the same issue. I was watching a recorded program and error screen came on again. The reboot solved the problem once more. I finally bought an attenuator from eBay but won't have it for a week. My question is this a cable voltage issue. Should I swap out cable cards with Verizon. Is the cable card slot bad. Is Verizon unknowingly sending out a signal that is un-pairing the card. I never had an issue before. I have had Verizon FIOS for several years now. I initially had the M-Card in my TiVo Premiere and never had an issue. I bought the Roamio from TiVo over a year ago.

That really does sound like an attenuation issue to me also - see if your attenuator fixes it.
    Been here a long time . . .

I just received an 8db attenuator pad 5-1000MHz from a seller on eBay. I connected to my incoming cable and then to the TiVo. It didn't reduce the signal strength at all. It's still 43db at 100%. I contacted the seller on eBay. I have no way if knowing if the pad is defective. In any event the last time the card un-paired it only did it for a minute and then it re-paired. I wonder if FIOS sent out some new code because it has been working fine since the weekend. I would however like to have the attenuator in place and reducing the signal just the same in case I do have problems again.

I just checked it again. Now it appears it is fluctuating between 41-42. I guess the signal is a lot stronger than what is being shown. I will probably have to order an attenuator with a much higher number or insert another attenuator where the signal is being split for bedroom box.

You could also just try putting two attenuators in a row.

But that seems like a really hot signal.

I am having the same problem with a Roamio Plus and Comcast. Getting 88-92% signal and 36db SNR. Comcast signals now seem to load only part of the required info and pairing is incomplete... now get only code V58.
Did the attenuator work? Did your cable company try to reduce the noise (SNR range is recommended to be below 33db or so I was told) by Tivo tech
