TiVo BOLT setup failure

Bolt doesn't recognize external drive.

1. Screen message says that device can't function without external drive but also suggests pressing the "clear" button to proceed WITHOUT the external drive. This is very confusing and the message should be re-written.

2. Pressing the "clear" button accomplishes nothing.

The Bolt set-up instructions make a big point of ensuring that the eSATA cable is installed securely--this is not the issue.

I purchased a different eSATA cable--this did not help.

It is critical that the eSATA cable be pushed in about 1-2mm AFTER it is flush with the back of the BOLT. You have to compress the black housing of the cable so that it is secure. This is due to a design flaw with the BOLT itself. "Secure" in this case means pushing it in FARTHER than it would seem designed to go. Once you do that, your external storage missing issues will be resolved.

I am concerned that all this man-handling of the eSATA cable will/has damage(d) the eSATA receptacle on the BOLT, but I will try to do as you describe.
