I have a few TiVo's, but my 5+ year old Premiere Series4 died last week and I am not positive what the issue is. I had no previous issues with it before this happened. It was fine one day and dead the next. I turned it on and all the lights on the front of the Tivo were lit, it started to make a loud noise and weird color lines appeared on the screen. I unplugged to do a hard boot, but it now just is at the Welcome Powering up screen - and won't get past it. I tried the remote trick using the pause button and a special code (54 I believe?) based on what I read on these forums to test if it's the hard drive, but I could never get the screen to come up no matter what I did. I've read that most times it is the hard drive, so I'm inclined to buy that, but in reading some of the power supply problems I'm not entirely convinced either way - or it could even be something else like the motherboard. I'm not overly technically inclined so I'm not sure I'd be able to do any of the other computer tests. Thoughts from the experts?
I don't want to spend a ton of money trying to fix it as its not in a room where it's used as often as the others. However, it was previously used a lot as I tend to recycle mine through my home when I get new ones. On that note, I had considered possibly buying the new Bolt and recycling them again so the second oldest replaces this dead one in its current spot, but am wondering if I should wait for the Pro version next year. Ideally I'd prefer to fix it and save the money for a later purchase. Any help is appreciated!
