  • Clock consistently 90 seconds ahead

Since Nov 2nd or so, a TiVo Roamio seems to be consistently 90 seconds ahead. Force-connecting to TiVo usually corrects the issue.

So at first I thought it was a server issue, with a bad timer feeding wrong time info. Also, on some recordings, an hour program would be truncated to :58 or stretched to 1:01, so it seemed it was VCM (per hour) related, not via a daily service connection.

Now it seems like it's a local issue with some units, since there's only one Roamio that appears to be affected. TiVo obtusely referred to it being a local issue since not all TiVos seem to be involved. Have you guys heard anything about this?

    Never seen anything like that.

Is it connected via broadband (Wifi/MOCA/ethernet)? If so, it should be pinging the server often enough that this shouldn't happen.

TiVo Community thought it was definitely a bad server issue, but like you said, it should be updating the clock regularly. Hence the probability it's a unit-by-unit issue. I just talked to a level 2 tech at TiVo, and it's a known issue they will issue a patch for, they say, but I'm not holding my breath anytime soon.

UPDATE: TiVo Community and TiVo forums both seem to side with this being a server issue. Which is fine by me, meaning it's probably NOT the unit. Which makes sense given this is affecting across Series 1-5.

Definitely better if it's out of your house so you shouldn't have to deal with it, but strange that it's selectively affecting your units.

Official word from TiVo (after one week of harping from thousands of users? Pfft): It's servers randomly experienced severe drift, from 30 seconds to 1:30 minutes. VCM connections (which apparently ping time) would randomly scramble clock accuracy. They reset their servers and are monitoring drift, and how this happened in the first place.

(FWIW, the other Roamios were affected too, I just didn't notice it.)

Meanwhile, lots of people lost endings to their programs for a good week, and during sweeps no less. Oh well, chalk this one up for the record books.

Pretty amazing. I wonder if they'll come back with the answer, once they determine how this happened.

I wouldn't bet on it. Remember, they tried to blame this on the units as a "local issue."

P.S. Michael: Everyone here agrees your profile pic is a dead ringer for Tom Cavanaugh.

Had to look up that name, but now that I have, thanks, I'll take that as a compliment!

And my pic might be a few years old at this point . . .
