  • TIVO Series 4 will not load programming

My Tivo Premier XL will not load programming.
It locks up when attempting to load, but has made it to 80%.
I have performed a Kickstart 57, but that did not correct the problem.
I am not great with electronics or computers but don't mind trying to repair the unit myself.
I am getting error codes S03 and D03.

Sounds like a bad drive. Did you do the overnight on Kickstart 54?
    Been here a long time . . .

      Kickstart

I performed a kickstart but it took less than an hour and did the same thing again - stalled on loading the programming.

        Try the 54 - not the 57.

          Three questions-
          (1) My unit has an external drive - should I detach it for the kickstart 54 test or leave it attached?

          (2) Can i begin the kickstart 54 and disconnect the unit from the TV while it is running the test then reconnect it later to check or do I need to leave it connected to the TV

          (3) Does the Tivo need to be connected to the home network while it runs the kickstart 54?

          Thanks

1 - Leave it attached, and check both drives.

2 - You should be able to disconnect it, or at least just turn the TV off.

            3 - No.

OK. I am back now and the kickstart 54 apparently is complete.
Both drives indicated to have passed all tests -
Off line scan - Both indicate "done"
The unit is still at the screen that shows the results
              - Where and how do I proceed from here?

Then it sounds like you have database corruption. Try "clear and delete guide data."

How do i get out of the SMART Test results screen?
                  "Clear" doesn't do it -

                    Pull the plug and reboot.

When it rebooted it started going thru Setup again -
It connected , downloaded info, disconnected, and began loading info - Got to 1% then shows error code S03
How do I get to "clear and delete guide data."

If you can't get out of setup, you can't do it.

Sounds like you really just need a new drive:

No guarantee that that's it the drive, though, right?
Should i just send it in for diagnosis and repair?

No guarantee, but it's very, very likely given the symptoms.

Sending it in is definitely another good option:

                              Thanks Michael -
                              You've been very helpful.
I leaning towards sending it in -
                              That's kinda like a $100 insurance policy -
