  • Is my hard drive dead or what?

I have an HD Series 3 box and it was making some odd burrrring noises. I unplugged it and let it rest. Plugged it back in and the welcome screen comes on for 7 seconds, screen goes gray and flickers onc, and then nothing. The green light on the front stays on and doesnt change. Everything ive read says its either a bad hard drive or a power issue. Has anyone else had this issue and determined what it might be. Additionally, does anyone know how i might save the shows that are on the hard drive if it is bad?

That could really be either, or could even be both.

If you can pop the lid, you can use this info to see about the power supply:

    Been here a long time . . .

Thanks, I'll replace the power supply first since I'm hoping the hard drive is not corrupt.

OK, took the cover off and the power board seems good to go. Nothing out of the ordinary, until I looked at the hard drive and noticed that the wiring harness going into the hard drive had apparently shorted out and maybe caught fire a little. I've cleaned up the contacts on the hard drive but the wiring harness and module seems wasted. Does Weaknees or anyone else sell the wiring harness>

If we are talking about the same part, I believe the other end of this connector is soldered onto your power supply. To replace the part, you have to get a replacement TiVo power supply.

Figured that would be the answer. That's cool. I'll confirm which one I need and order it. Thanks for all the help
