  • Unprompted Channel Changes on Tivo Elite

For the past few weeks I have noticed what seems to be erratic behavior from my Tivo Elite Unit. While watching live TV the unit will suddenly change channels without any user input, the remote is not being touched nor does the Tivo emit the sound you would get from a remote input. As far as I can tell there are not programs scheduled to record causing this nor suggestions.. Any ideas where I should look next. Thanks for any guidance..

You could look in your To Do List to see if there are recordings that are scheduled that you don't know about.

You can also see if TiVo Suggestions is set to auto-record. If so, turn that off.
    Been here a long time . . .

I'm certain that it isn't To-Do List Items , will disable Suggestions and see if that makes a difference.

Disabled Suggestions as suggested, however once again while watching live TV and nothing being recorded it changed the channel without warning or message. ?

Someone on an app changing the channel?

          Errant IR in the room?

The unit is hooked up to a Sling Box, however when this occurs there never is the tone I would associate with the remote or a change via the Slingbox, guess it's worth resetting/disabling the Slingbox to see if it's a factor.

That pretty much has to be the culprit at this point.

Reset the Slingbox and no recurrence the past few days. Thanks for your input.

Spoke too soon. Started doing it again this morning, Suggestions Disabled, Slingbox Disconnected. Again no sound indicating an input from the remote, seems to point to some issue with the Tivo unit itself perhaps some component of the tuner failing ?

Can't say I've ever seen tuner failure cause channel changes. Very strange situation, but I'd suspect some external IR somewhere.

Is the Slingbox fully powered off?

Still experiencing this issue. Seems to happen regardless of whether things are schedule to record or not, has happened while viewing live broadcasts as well as watching recorded. It does sound like a stray IR issue and there are many possible sources, 3 TV Remotes in the house, Sling Catcher and 2 Sling box's but seems like it has occurred even with these things powered down and has occurred at times when no one is anywhere near those devices. Re Booting seems to temporarily cease the activity but that may just be coincidence. Doesn't happen constantly but at least several times daily. Any other idea's I might try.

The classic cause for weird remote behavior is that a remote is stuck under a couch cushion and emits erratic IR.

                        Any chance of that?
