  • Series 3 "Powering up"...forever

My Series 3 has ceased functioning normally. I'm trying to determine what's wrong and what's involved in fixing it.

For the past several months, it has displayed nothing but the startup screen that says "Welcome! Powering up...". Every front-panel light is lit up. None of the front-panel buttons produces a response, nor does any button on the remote.

Anyone have any idea what's causing this? The box is clearly working in some respects...just not able to record and play shows.

Thanks to those who contribute ideas.

In what way is it actually working?

That's almost definitely a hard drive problem. A "replace" kit for your model should fix the problem:

It's working insofar as it's powering up and delivering a signal to the video outs. That's about it.

Can you speak a little bit about your logic for determining it's a HD problem?

      Thanks.

You have the classic hard drive symptoms - the video out works, power works, but the unit won't boot because it can't read the OS off the hard drive.
