Howdy, new member here. I just returned from a trip to find that my TiVo fell victim to a power surge, and was fried. I've just gotten off the phone with TiVo support, and they're exchanging it, which is great. My question is about the hard drive. I opened up my TiVo and popped in a 3gb hard drive and took out the original hard drive, then sold it. I'm obviously going to keep my larger hard drive, and I'm considering just swapping the new one out and putting it in the broken one when I send it in.
Does anybody have experience doing this with TiVo? Do you know if they will see that it's the same hard drive that they just sent to me in the new box? I've considered buying a similar one off of eBay to put in there, so it's at least a different hard drive. Am I being too paranoid? My main concern is that they see that I swapped out the hard drive, and they turn off my service, or ask for more money or something.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
