  • Squealing noise from TiVo unit

Came home to hear a squealing noise coming from my Series 1, Sony SVR-2000. I unplugged the power and the noise ground to a stop after 6 or 8 seconds. I could see the fan come to a complete stop before the noise stopped so I suspect it is the hard drive making the noise. But the only thing that makes me not sure is that the TV displays the TiVo logo with the statement about it powering up. Would this image display if the hard drive is shot? Maybe it's stored on the board somewhere independent of the hard drive? I just want to make sure before ordering a new drive. I'm pretty amazed that this original hard drive has lasted this long. In case anyone is wondering, the only reason I want to revive this antique is because I have the lifetime subscription on it!

Thanks for any confirmation or alternate explanation someone can offer!

Yes, that's exactly what you'd see with a dead drive, or even no drive at all.

    Sounds like it's a drive.
    Been here a long time . . .
