  • Can I watch TV while waiting for my replacement drive?

I just ordered a replacement for the dead hard drive in my TiVo Premier. The TiVo was serving as my set top box with the Comcast card in it. The dead hard drive is removed. There ought to be a way to get the signal from the cable, through the decoder card to the TV output, but I have never seen any mention of how to do it. Does anybody know if this is possible?

There's no way to do that through the TiVo. The OS is on the drive. Without it, the TiVo won't work at all.

Have you tried just plugging the coax cable into your TV?
    Been here a long time . . .

Of course I tried that first. But the TiVo box holds the cable decoder card from Comcast, and without that the digital signal does not get decoded. I was hoping there might be a way to send the TV signal from the cable input to the decoder card to the TV output, bypassing TiVo's record/read back functions. I guess not. Anyway, my new drive arrived and is in the setup procedure now.

OK - if you only get encrypted channels, that's right, it won't work.

        Glad the new drive arrived!
