I have a Tivo HD from 2009, upgraded to a 1 TB drive. Last weekend, the Tivo could not get past the welcome screen, rebooting continuously. I pulled the drive and it failed a S.M.A.R.T. test. Since I had the original 160 GB drive that came with it (which theoretically is in near-new condition as it has not been in use), I installed it and now the Tivo will not power on at all - no LEDs, fan does not spin, hard drive does not spin - no indications of life. While I've been tempted to get a new Roamio, I would like to repair this one as well. Is this definitively a power supply issue? I have a volt meter handy - is there any place on the power supply board to check voltages? If I understand your store policy, is it correct that I could buy the power supply and then return it if it doesn't fix the problem?

Rather than using a voltmeter, just do a visual inspection. See this page:

No obvious bulging or discolored caps. The only thing that looks funny is that the paper-type material around the "hi-pot" has a brownish color. This appears to be inconclusive... Any ideas on what to try next?Originally posted by WK-Michael View PostComment

That may mean there was some overheating on the power supply.
But in the meantime, have you run the Kickstart 54 on the old drive?Been here a long time . . .Comment

If I put the old drive into another Tivo HD, can I run Kickstart 54 on it then? I hadn't run Kickstart 54 on the old drive in the malfunctioning Tivo because it wasn't working for some reason (after it accepted the sequence "54", it rebooted without running the process).Comment
