TivoHD Stuck on Welcome Screen

    TivoHD Stuck on Welcome Screen

    I have a TiVOHD TCD652160 and after I selected the Complete erase option, the tivo restarted, went through the screens, but is now STUCK on the Welcome back, just a few more minutes screen.

    No matter if I unplug, its still the same.

    This does have an upgraded hard drive but from back in 2008-2009.

    Is this pretty much a sign of a failed hard drive? If I buy a new drive, and put the image back on, will it work?

    Yes, you likely have a bad drive, but it could also be a power supply issue.

      Thank you. How can you test or tell if its a power supply issue?

        You can visually inspect it. See:

        www.weaknees.com/bps

        If you have a bad capacitor, the psu is bad. If you don't, it still could be bad...so this isn't a sure-fire test.

          If you are good with electronics and a volt meter, you could measure the voltages at the Motherboard connector. ~5.15 v on red/Black wires. ~12.0 on the yellow/black wires. Could still be bad but it's the best you can do with out more test equipment.

            We really haven't seen that using a volt meter really helps with the testing on TiVo power supplies. Between the lack of load, and the signaling from the motherboard, there are just many more variables involved here.
